Welcome to the Windows Mobile 6 upgrade for the AT&T 8525. Please review the following prior to downloading and installing the ROM update on your device:
This ROM is available from November 1, 2007 to February 1, 2008. After this date, the ROM will be removed from the website and will no longer be available for distribution.
This ROM update is intended for the AT&T 8525 only and users should not load or attempt to load this version on any other device as it may cause serious issues/damage.
At this time, Good Mobile Messaging is not supported on the AT&T 8525 with Windows Mobile 6. It is recommended that Good Mobile Messaging users not upgrade their device’s firmware at this time. Please note that once the latest firmware has been loaded, it can not be undone.
HTC strongly suggests that users create a back up copy of this ROM and keep it in a secure place as all new and refurbished 8525 devices (including those received via Warranty Exchange) will come loaded with Windows Mobile 5 rather than Windows Mobile 6.
Please read the following important notes before starting the upgrade:
Before you proceed, please confirm that this software upgrade is a newer version than what is currently loaded on your device.
If it is the same version and your device is operating normally, there is no need to reload the software. To determine what version is running on your device, refer to the image left and note the ROM version, CPU, and Radio Version and then on your device, go to Start > Settings > Device Information.
Before you run the ROM Upgrade Utility (RUU), make sure you check and do the following first:
1. USB sync cable is connected to your device and PC to establish a connection with Activesync/Windows Mobile Device Center.
2. The standby and hibernation modes are disabled on the computer.
3. All running applications on the computer have been closed.
Ensure that you device has a battery level of at least 50% (Start > Settings > System Tab > Power > Battery tab). If the battery “dies” during the upgrade process, there is a chance that it will not recover and will need to be sent to AT&T/HTC for repairs.
4. The update can take up to 25 minutes so set aside time when you will not be interrupted.
5. All data will be deleted from the device during the upgrade (music, pictures, 3rd party applications, etc); be sure to back up all of your data using Activesync/Windows Mobile Device Center prior to upgrading.
!!! Do Not interrupt the upgrade process or press any buttons until the process has been completed (the device will reset itself when the update is done).
General Procedure on Installing the ROM Update
1. Back up your personal data from the Mobile Device to your computer using ActiveSync/Windows Mobile Device Center if you want to ensure you don’t lose any of your data.
2. On your computer, run the ROM Update Utility (RUU) to install the ROM update to your Mobile Device. (The next section provides a detailed procedure on how to install the ROM Update).
3. Restore your personal data back to your Mobile Device using ActiveSync/Windows Mobile Device Center. (Optional)
WARNING: During the upgrade process, do not attempt to make/receive calls, press any buttons on your device or disconnect the device from the USB cable as this sill stop the update and your device will be rendered inoperable!!!
The upgrade process takes up to 25 minutes. It is recommended that you close all programs on your PC prior to starting the update program and do not open any applications or files while the update is in process. All personal data stored on the device will be lost. Make sure you save all pictures, videos, and important files to your PC prior to performing the update process.
