Multi-tasking, or doing more than one activity at a time, is a way of life for everyone these days. Between work, family and social life, people are finding themselves busier than ever. But the results of a recent global online survey conducted by Nokia indicated that women are better at multitasking than men with 60 percent of respondents, both men and women. Only six percent of women believe that men are better at doing more than one thing at a time.

From the total of more than 5,000 respondents, 79 percent consider themselves multitaskers, with 50% describing themselves ‘productive’ and 31% ‘busy’. The majority of men and women in the Scandinavian countries of Denmark and Norway indicated they can do several things at once. The most relaxed were the Finnish people at 74 percent.

Sony Ericsson Plays Nice With Thumb Drives

Posted by VlAD @ 11:16 am

You know, industrial designers seem to love conceptualizing what future Sony Ericsson mobiles will look like. Designer Vincent Palicki is just one of many but his design actually looks like it could be made today and fit right in with the SE family.

It’s a slim candy bar style phone complete with a big screen, standard SE key layout but touched up with stainless steel buttons. Yes it’ll do music, movies, text, email, blah blah and blah so where’s the innovation here? It would be the full size USB port, perfect for any thumb drive. Of course it’s not meant to have a “sore thumb” sticking out at all times, but it’s a way to transfer files like music, videos, and pictures to and from without the need of a computer.

FCC Pressures Sprint for Rebanding

Posted by VlAD @ 01:56 pm

Sprint Nextel is in big trouble and in danger of being shut down by FCC if it does not consider its terms on the bands that this network uses. A large number of organizations have encountered problems with this operator’s safety radio systems, which could lead to drastic measures from FCC.

The threat is cast upon parts of Sprint Nextel’s network , as 2,200 public safety companies have found problems with it. The main issue seems to be that the operator uses the same bands as safety radio systems.

The situation has been present for a long time now, right since Nextel’s partnership with Sprint, back in 2005. At that time, the company promised to find a solution for it by giving up frequency bands or helping to modify radio systems. Sprint took upon itself the problem on the new company acquisition and has invested over USD 1 billion since that time. Still, it is not completely solved and FCC threatens to take actions.

Loudoun County Schools Implement WeatherBug Protect

Posted by VlAD @ 01:49 pm

Loudoun County’s 72 public schools have implemented a severe weather-alerting service from WeatherBug(R) Professional and Sprint. The location-based system, WeatherBug Protect, is available on Sprint phones and is designed to enhance student and staff safety throughout the school day and at outdoor events during the afternoon and evening.

Loudoun County Public Schools are the first in the Mid-Atlantic region to implement WeatherBug Protect. More than 160 Sprint phones outfitted with WeatherBug Protect will be distributed among faculty and athletic directors at every high, middle and elementary school across the county. In addition, every principal will receive WeatherBug Protect alerts via their Blackberry device.

“It is imperative that relevant notifications reach the right people giving them enough early warning to take action,” said Chris Brozenick, vice president of product management, WeatherBug. “This joint solution from Sprint and WeatherBug Professional provides Loudoun County Public Schools with vital information during time-sensitive events such as lightning or rising temperatures, enabling students and staff to stay safe during severe weather events.”

Ericsson announced its latest evolution in low-energy telecommunication solutions, a solar-driven and energy-efficient main-remote GSM base station deployed in conjunction with leading Indonesian operator PT Telekomunikasi Selular (Telkomsel). The breakthrough deployment will provide macro coverage in the untapped areas of Sumatra and address the mobile communications needs in the rural areas in Indonesia.

The Main-Remote GSM base station RBS 2111 is part of the Ericsson Communications Expander portfolio. It has a smaller environmental footprint than a standard base station, consuming up to 60 percent less energy. The remote radio unit is placed at the top of the tower, reducing feeder loss and power use. The solution is also easy to deploy, with the heaviest component weighing only 35kg.

The Dordabis trial project produced highly encouraging results. To move forward with our growth strategy, MTC Namibia needed an efficient and reliable alternative to mains grid electricity solution.
