Alcatel-LucentAlcatel-Lucent announces the availability of a Japanese language user interface for the Alcatel-Lucent 5620 Service Aware Manager (SAM), an integrated network and service management solution for converged IP/Ethernet/MPLS multiservice networks. The 5620 SAM helps service providers address the key challenge of maintaining operational excellence while converging their network infrastructures and introducing advanced IP-based services to businesses, customers and residential subscribers.

The Alcatel-Lucent 5620 SAM is a single management platform offering element, network and service management for advanced Layer 2 and Layer 3 network solutions and services based on Alcatel-Lucent’s converged IP, Ethernet and MPLS networking portfolio. The Alcatel-Lucent 5620 SAM is also compatible with third party equipment using the Generic Network Element (GNE) feature for session launch, configuration, alarm surveillance and topology display.

“The Alcatel-Lucent 5620 SAM has been adopted by service providers around the world for cost-effective IP services creation, provision and assurance. It is now customized for our Japanese customers which is concrete evidence of Alcatel-Lucent’s commitment and investment in this market”, says Daniel Hua, vice president of Alcatel-Lucent’s IP business in Asia Pacific.

The 5620 SAM has evolved beyond the traditional element management system fault, configuration, accounting, performance and security (FCAPS) functions to tightly integrate equipment, routing, network and service management. It sets the standard in automating and accelerating each aspect of the service deployment life cycle from network infrastructure build to service provisioning, service assurance and service billing.

The Alcatel-Lucent 5620 SAM is a cornerstone of Alcatel-Lucent’s network and services management portfolio and is used in combination with other applications to deliver seamless solutions.

The Alcatel-Lucent 5620 SAM consists of four functional modules:

- SAM Element Manager (SAM-E) – element management providing traditional FCAPS functionality;

- SAM Provisioning (SAM-P) – network infrastructure management, scripting, service provisioning and customer management;

- SAM Assurance (SAM-A) – physical, network, and service topology views, OAM to OAM service diagnostics tools, fault/service/customer correlation and configuration change management;

- SAM OSS Interface (SAM-O) – operations support system (OSS) interface gateway.

Alcatel-Lucent IP/MPLS solutions have been selected by more than 200 service providers in more than 90 countries. During the fourth quarter of 2007, Alcatel-Lucent reinforced its #2 position in IP/MPLS edge garnering 18% of the market according to Ovum-RHK.
