Marking its first extension off of the PC, AddictingGames’ Qwikies are Flash®-based mini-games which allow Verizon Wireless customers to play popular AddictingGames’ titles from the palms of their hands, including “Fling the Ferret,” “50 States,” “Flip the Bird,” “Escape the Locker,” “Fly Squasher,” “Whack a Mole,” “Jungle Gym,” and many other original titles.

SEGA® Mobile, a division of SEGA Corporation, today announced that its classic game Sonic the Hedgehog has surpassed more than 8 million downloads since launching on mobile phones in North America and Europe. The venerable video icon has been a stellar performer since launching in early 2006. In North America, the game has enjoyed its biggest success and consistent Top Seller status on Verizon Wireless’ V CAST service.

The Asian American Business Development Center (AABDC) has named Verizon Wireless’ Chief Information Officer Ajay Waghray as one of 50 Outstanding Asian Americans in Business. Waghray will be honored at an awards dinner and ceremony held here tonight at the Waldorf-Astoria.

A consortium comprising Eircom, Motorola and Sigma Wireless (TETRA Ireland) has secured Ireland’s National Digital Radio Services contract. The 8-year ‘build-own-operate’ contract will start with the roll-out of services in an area covering parts of Dublin (including the port and airport). The nationwide roll-out is scheduled to be completed within 2 years.

Through a partnership with Strayer University, Verizon Wireless launched a model college degree program at its call center last fall. Associate and bachelor’s of business administration classes as well as an MBA program are conducted onsite at no cost to employees, thanks to the company’s tuition assistance program. Business courses are tailored to the Verizon Wireless student, with the opportunity to use actual business scenarios as case studies.
The two-day S60 Summit was opened today in Barcelona. Nokia today dealt deep layer enterprise security threats another blow as it launched the Nokia IP1280 - the latest in its line of high performance, multi-core IP Security appliances. Nokia also announced that global sales of its existing multi-core solutions, including the Nokia IP690 and IP2450, had exceeded 1500 units since their introduction in mid 2007.
