NokiaNokia today announced the availability of the latest Software Development Kit (SDK) for SNAP Mobile, its end-to end solution for connected mobile gaming in Java(TM) technology. The SNAP Mobile SDK 2.2 provides developers with a number of innovative tools to make it significantly easier to create connected mobile games. New features include a game template, skinable user interface framework, support for J2SE and Bot API. The SDK is available for download through Forum Nokia, the largest mobile development community worldwide, at http://www.forum.nokia.com/snapmobile.

“Nokia is committed to enhancing the mobile gaming experience and by adding these new elements to the SNAP Mobile SDK, we’re making it faster and easier for developers to add connected gaming elements to their games,” said Jonathan Sharp, Director, Games Strategy, Nokia. “Consumers expect more and more from their mobile games and this SDK will help developers deliver great Java games with superior connected gaming elements. The faces of innovation gather at annual Nokia Games Summit

NokiaNokia hosts games industry leaders from around the world today in Rome, Italy to discuss openly about how to evolve, innovate and cooperate together to grow the mobile games business globally. In addition to discussions around trends in mobile gaming, publishers’ perspectives and visions of the future, attendees learn how the N-Gage service has been doing since its launch six months ago, hear how Nokia Games Publishing is innovating with new games like Dance Fabulous, and see concepts of the top three finalists of the Mobile Games Innovation Challenge.

“With the N-Gage service now live for six months, we have a truly global service on offer with sales transactions in over 130 countries and tens of millions of N-Gage compatible devices available,” said Tero Ojanper?, executive vice president and head of the Nokia entertainment and communities business. “The most active players reside in the United Kingdom, Italy, Germany, Australia and Spain, but we’ve seen active players worldwide with repeat purchase rates over 35% globally. Game trials have also proved to be important, with download to purchase conversions up to 30%.”

MotorolaMotorola today announced that Motorola Technology Sdn Bhd (“Motorola Penang”) has set up a new MMU-Motorola Wireless Broadband Technology Lab at Multimedia University (“MMU”), Cyberjaya, providing a conducive wireless network environment for students and faculty members to conduct applied research on the latest wireless broadband technologies. The Wireless Broadband Technology Lab is the first of its kind in Malaysia and supports MMU’s goal to “Enable the Knowledge Society through WiMAX”.

The lab at MMU is Motorola’s latest contribution to the education community, strengthening the company’s support to human capital development at universities around the world. The Wireless Broadband Technology Lab provides academics and researchers with an opportunity to gain hands-on experience with various fixed, nomadic and mobile MOTOwi4TM wireless broadband technologies and applications, keeping them up-to-date with the latest developments.

Alcatel-LucentLGS, a subsidiary of Alcatel-Lucent dedicated to serving the U.S. government community, announced today that its Chief Operating Officer/Chief Technology Officer, Dr. David Bishop was awarded the 2009 George E. Pake Prize.

The George E. Pake Prize recognizes and encourages outstanding work by physicists combining original research accomplishments with leadership in the management of research or development in industry.

Alcatel-Lucent names Robert Vrij as head of the Americas Region

Alcatel-LucentAlcatel-Lucent today announced that Robert Vrij, an executive with over 15 years of senior management experience, will join the company as head of the Americas Region effective immediately.

Vrij will report to Alcatel-Lucent CEO Ben Verwaayen and will be responsible for overseeing all of the company’s sales and operations in North America and CALA (Caribbean and Latin America.) He will be a member of the company’s management committee and his office will be in Murray Hill, New Jersey, the headquarters for the Americas region.
