Motorola today announced that it has won a contract to provide AENA Alicante Airport with an advanced TETRA (TErrestrial Trunked RAdio) digital radio system to support and improve operations throughout the site. By deploying TETRA infrastructure in the airport, indoor and outdoor radio communication between ground staff, airport officials and other workers will be significantly improved.
Partnering with Amper Sistemas, Motorola will role out its Dimetra IP solution, enhanced IP-based TETRA technology that is highly flexible and scalable and is able to support voice, messaging, and mobile applications—including remote access to information databases and image transmission—over a single network.

Motorola today unveils its “Future Tech” research into the future requirements that Europe’s public safety agencies and major industrial users have for their communications systems. Analysis from interviews with 196 organizations, reveals the clear demand, expressed by 82 percent of respondents for fast, resilient communications, which improve the safety of users, extend the range of applications available in the field and simplify ease of use. These requirements underline the ongoing importance of TETRA technology.
The in-depth study, conducted by IDC on Motorola’s behalf, canvassed the opinions of executives with a role in purchasing decisions across eight countries in Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA)* from public safety, oil and gas and transport sectors. As well as articulating the overwhelming demand for faster and more resilient communication networks, organizations, as reported by 79 percent of respondents, are keen to see improvements to technology which improves existing systems.
Ericsson today announced that it has acquired 100 percent of the shares of Bizitek, the leading Turkish systems integrator of business support systems. With this acquisition, Ericsson will strengthen its local R&D force as well as its leadership in the field of systems integration.
With its expertise in the field of business support systems, Bizitek will add strategic competence to Ericsson’s services portfolio. The competence acquired will further strengthen Ericsson’s ability to help operators deal with the challenge of transforming their networks to all-IP and optimizing their operations support systems and business support systems.
Alcatel-Lucent today released its 2008 Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) report, posting it on the company’s web site rather than printing thousands of paper copies. Alcatel-Lucent also is taking this virtually paperless approach with its 2008 financial report as one step to help the company reach its aggressive goal of cutting its 2008 carbon emissions in half by 2020.

Alcatel-Lucent today announced that, according to data from Infonetics, it is now the #1 vendor in the IP edge router market in the Europe, Middle East, Africa (EMEA) region with almost 31 percent market share. During Q1 2009, Alcatel-Lucent increased its market share in the worldwide IP edge router segment, strengthening its #2 position globally with 20 percent share.
Alcatel-Lucent continued its momentum in the fastest-growing service provider routing segment with strong demand for its 3rd generation IP/MPLS service routers. More than 270 customers in 100+ countries have selected the portfolio to respond to market demands including consumer IPTV and Internet access, Ethernet and IP VPNs for Enterprises, and wireless core and backhaul evolution.
