Sprint and Southwest Airlines have joined forces to offer toll-free TTY (teletypewriter) and video relay access, giving deaf and hard-of-hearing customers direct access to Southwest Airlines customer service.
Beginning today, deaf, hard-of-hearing, and speech disabled customers needing to call Southwest Airlines can dial a dedicated toll-free TTY telephone number: 800-533-1305. That number is answered by a Sprint relay agent who immediately connects to the Southwest Airlines customer service representative. The Sprint relay agent relays information between the Customer Service representative and the relay user in English or Spanish.
Given the tough economic challenges today, most businesses including hospitals are looking for cost-effective alternatives to run their day-to-day operations while maintaining a high level of patient care. Cost effective wireless technology – including mobile medical applications that allow remote monitoring and access to critical patient information – were key topics of discussion at the “mHealth Solutions and Policy Forum,” hosted by CTIA-The Wireless Association® in Washington D.C., earlier today. With more than 30 years of supporting the healthcare industry, Sprint was the only wireless carrier to showcase live demonstrations of innovative mobility solutions available on its Now Network™.
“With the power of our Now Network, we are helping physicians to get the job done wherever their rounds take them,” said Ed Davalos, director of healthcare industry solutions at Sprint. “In the past few years, Sprint has seen a significant growth in the adoption of mobility solutions by healthcare providers with a growing interest among hospitals and caregivers for adopting Sprint solutions including Nextel Direct Connect®, Sprint Mobile Broadband and Converged Network Solutions (CNS). Today’s positive discussion re-emphasized this growing trend and illustrates how technology is reshaping the healthcare system in the U.S. and across the world.”

AT&T announced today it has entered into an agreement with Cooper Power Systems, a division of Cooper Industries to jointly market and sell to utility companies smart grid sensor devices that are certified on AT&T’s wireless data network. Utilities can now receive real-time system performance data to efficiently operate their electric grids, reduce the need for on-site inspections, and identify and solve problems that could cause outages or increase system energy losses.
Today’s announcement is the latest expansion of AT&T’s efforts with smart grid technology in the M2M (machine to machine) space to use wireless technology to streamline business processes and provide real-time monitoring of energy assets. AT&T will co-sell two products with Cooper Power Systems under this agreement: OutageAdvisor™ and VARAdvisor™.
