Ericsson is introducing an innovative, easy-to-use solution that allows users to get discounts on mobile call rates of up to 99 percent based on the network load at their location. Designed in Africa to make communication more affordable for users in low-income markets, Ericsson’s Dynamic Discount solution is now generating interest globally.
Ericsson’s new solution gives consumers the opportunity to see the discount currently available at their location on their mobile phone’s screen in real-time. People using this solution can receive call discounts of up to 99 percent by calling during low-traffic periods. The Dynamic Discount solution is available to any subscriber charged in real-time, whether pre-paid or part of a converged charging system. Consumers can activate the solution by simply punching in a code.

Ericsson, a leading pioneer of LTE technology, confirms it has signed license agreements for LTE essential patents. Ericsson is a strong advocate for reasonable aggregated royalties and holds the industry’s strongest LTE patent portfolio. Ericsson is now taking the lead in establishing an industry practice to promote healthy market growth. This builds on Ericsson’s present global licensing program for GSM/WCDMA, now composed of more than 80 agreements and generating significant revenue.
Building on extensive experience in GSM and WCDMA, Ericsson has been driving the development of next-generation mobile technology – 4G/LTE – ever since its OFDM research in the early 1990s. Already today, at the dawn of the technology, Ericsson possesses a substantial number of standard essential patents that are key to developing 4G/LTE products.
Ericsson has been selected to provide Telefónica O2 Germany with an IMS core system with an IMS-based VoIP application server. These two contracts include hardware deployment and software systems integration services.
This represents a major step forward for O2 in Germany, as it migrates its existing fixed and mobile systems into a converged IP-based Next-generation network (NGN).
Ericsson will also integrate in Germany O2’s VoIP application server using IMS, making services such as IP Centrex, business trunking or presence functionality available to all fixed and mobile users. Andrea Folgueiras CTO Telefónica O2 Germany, says: “With IMS, we can advance the conversion of our current systems into more cost-effective and higher performance multimedia networks that can make optimal use of ever-increasing bandwidths. We based our decision to have Ericsson as a partner for IMS on the good experience from our joint projects in Spain and other countries.”
Alcatel-Lucent today announced that AT&T has extended Alcatel-Lucent’s contract for end-to-end multivendor network integration for AT&T U-verseSM.
The AT&T U-verse portfolio brings together U-verse TV, U-verse High Speed Internet and U-verse Voice services all delivered over AT&T’s advanced Internet Protocol (IP) network using Alcatel-Lucent’s Triple Play Service Delivery Architecture (TPSDA). AT&T U-verse services are now offered in 93 markets in 19 states, with more than 1.3 million U-verse TV customers.
Alcatel-Lucent today announced the appointment of Christel Heydemann, as Strategic Alliance Vice President for HP reporting to Tom Burns, President of Alcatel-Lucent Enterprise Product Group. She will be based in California.
Last week, HP and Alcatel-Lucent announced that they have signed a relationship agreement establishing both parties’ intent to form a 10-year global alliance to bring new end-to-end integrated telecom and IT solutions to the market.
