MotorolaThe Enterprise Mobility Solutions business unit of Motorola, today announced it has added the PMP 320 wireless broadband access network solution to its proven and cost-effective point-to-multipoint (PMP) wireless broadband portfolio. Motorola’s latest solution offers network operators reliable, robust and secure wireless connectivity based on 802.16e standards, accelerating deployment time and reducing infrastructure costs. Designed to provide reliable and secure residential access, cost-effective enterprise connectivity or support for e-government applications, the PMP 320 can be co-located with existing Motorola PMP wireless broadband networks to offer service providers greater leverage from their existing access point locations.

Alcatel-LucentAlcatel-Lucent and SK Telecom, the leading provider of information and mobile services in Korea, have further strengthened their cooperation with the signature of a new contract to deploy a mobile backhaul network and assist SK Telecom’s Packet Transport System (PTS) business in its network evolution.

Today, end-users expect to run video, voice and Internet via their mobile, with applications such as video streaming, interactive gaming and high-speed Internet access. SK Telecom is facing a huge demand for new data-oriented services from all segments of the market. Alcatel-LucentEurotunnel has selected Alcatel-Lucent to modernize the communications infrastructure in the Channel Tunnel. The new system will raise the railway communications capacity in the Tunnel to the highest technological standard and will generate further improvements in the safety and reliability of the system. The new equipment will be operational in 2012 in time for the Olympic Games in London.

The introduction of digital technology, together with the addition of the latest information system innovations will help improve operations and will provide better service quality. Alcatel-Lucent will deploy its GSM-R solution across the entire Eurotunnel network, improving voice and data communications for operations staff and enabling better service for customers. Alcatel-Lucent will also provide a set of professional services including end-to-end integration, deployment, testing and maintenance. These solutions will facilitate the management of increasingly dense rail traffic and will further improve safety.

Motorola and du Implement Mobile WiMAX Network for Dubai Metro

MotorolaMotorola, today announced its Home & Networks Mobility business has joined forces with UAE telecom provider, du, in the successful launch of Dubai Metro’s mobile WiMAX network. Motorola’s WiMAX equipment provides mobile connectivity and effective backhaul for Wi-Fi traffic on the Dubai Metro transport system train carriages as well as in the Metro stations.

The Dubai Metro will be the longest fully automated rail transport system in the world. The Red Line, which is 52km long, is already functional and is expected to be followed by the Green line in early 2010. Once completed, the Metro will have 47 stations, four of which will be underground.
