psx4iphone Goes Public; Playstation Emulator for iPhone

Posted by VlAD @ 10:31 pm

The long-awaited Playstation emulator for iPhone has just gone public! Version 0.1 is now officially available via Installer.app and manual installation via the link below. Psx4iphone allows you to play Playstation (psx) ROMs on your iPhone. Ahh the memories. The zodttd forum also has a few threads that may be useful. This thread is home to a growing list ROMs known to be compatible with psx4iphone and a pretty comprehensive FAQ thread is maintained in this thread. The existing Gameboy and NES emulators for Apple’s first mobile handset are definitely fun but psx4iphone kicks it up a notch. Do you remember how annoying it was to come home to your NES after playing Playstation all afternoon at your buddy’s house?

Apple in talks to launch iPhone in Japan

Posted by VlAD @ 09:28 pm

Apple Inc. is negotiating with Japan’s top mobile phone carrier to launch the iPhone in Japan, though the cut of subscriber revenue that Apple wants has been a sticking point, according to a report published Tuesday.

NTT DoCoMo spokesman Shuichiro Ichikoshi said company President Masao Nakamura met recently with Apple Chief Executive Steve Jobs. Shuichiro declined to comment further.

The Wall Street Journal, citing unnamed people familiar with the matter, reported Tuesday that Jobs and Nakamura discussed launching the iPhone in Japan.

Apple has said it plans to launch the device in Asia in 2008 but has not provided details.

5 millions iPhones sold?

Posted by VlAD @ 04:21 pm

That’s what rumor site 9to5 Mac is claiming. The site posits that Apple is poised to announce that it has sold 5 million iPhones. The announcement will supposedly come during January’s Macworld Keynote address. Given Steve Jobs’ initial desire to push 10 million units by the end of 2008, it’s safe to say that the company could be well on their way to achieving that goal. If true, this announcement would be the first official iPhone sales milestone following the initial “1 million sold celebration” that occurred just 74 days after the product’s launch. We’ll have to wait until Macworld to find out for sure, but we wouldn’t be the least bit surprised if this turns out to be true.

The new Land Rover LRX Concept will integrate the iPhone located dead center of the console. Owners can dock the iPhone and even use it as a key to start the vehicle. Located on either side of the power-adjusted speakers are iPod docking stations.

The Land Rover LRX Concept will debut at the Detroit Auto Show next month, and you can bet your ass I’m going to be all over it (yes, I will be attending the event).

iPhone Video Recording Now Working with Drunknbass

Posted by VlAD @ 08:41 pm

The geniuses from Monster and Friends have created an iPhone application which can record video up to 45 frames per second. They are still working in the final version, but to give you a taste they have published Drunknbass, a beta which records 5 seconds of video at 10 fps with a resolution of 2 megapixels. I’ve tested and it works perfectly. It doesn’t have any interface, so you just download it, put it in your iPhone’s Applications folder, click on the button and it will start recording.

When Drunknbass is finished with the five seconds recording it will replay the clip once. The final application will be able to record unlimited-sized clips (only constrained by your available space) up to 30 frames per second and it will have an interface to save your clips (they are looking for developers to help with the graphical side of the software).

This is good for three things: first, because this confirms that video recording works great on the iPhone and we will probably see this officially from Apple, as rumored, in a future update. Second, because it confirms there are no limits that third-party developers can’t overcome.

iPhone conquers France

Posted by VlAD @ 01:35 pm

The iPhone has been one of the most sought-after mobile phones in recent history. Its product life follows a unique path, that’s never been seen in another mobile phone to date. Today the iPhone family will get extended as the French hop on board. Despite the hefty price and unwieldy contract stipulations, almost everyone seems to want one and some Germans are even willing to pay EUR 999 for an unlocked unit. All that inspired us of putting down some of our editorial comments into a short article.

There’s no wonder the iPhone black market is thriving and is currently bristling with activity. After all, it’s Apple themselves that have created the necessary conditions for the black market to emerge in the first place - a high-end product that’s sold exclusively. “Exclusivity” means that not everyone can have it. The black market however goes hand in hand with that sort of stuff.
