Samsung F490 launched

Posted by VlAD @ 09:39 pm

Samsung has decided to launch it’s new 5 megapixel full touch screen phone - Samsung F490 in some strange way.

Since there were no news about this handset at CES this week, I thought they were saving the announcement for the big 3GSM show in Barcelona, next month. But I was wrong. Samsung SGH-F490 is being launched today.

Why waste the opportunity to show off the new phone at the one of the biggest trade shows of the year? And then then issue a press release, about the flagship product, that will likely be lost among the flood of news reports coming from CES?

Beats me. But here’s the official Samsung F490 press pics.

Alltel’s HTC Touch features four panels on the “cube,” including an Alltel-exclusive panel that provides customers with quick access to the latest smartphone applications to personalize their phones and help do more on the go. Customers can also customize the phone with ringtones, themes and games, in addition to pre-programmed links to shopping applications.

The smartphone also provides access to Alltel applications, including the new Voice2TXT service from Spinvox that converts incoming voicemails to text and sends them to the customer’s text inbox, allowing them to discretely respond to voicemails via text messages without dialing their phone.

5 millions iPhones sold?

Posted by VlAD @ 04:21 pm

That’s what rumor site 9to5 Mac is claiming. The site posits that Apple is poised to announce that it has sold 5 million iPhones. The announcement will supposedly come during January’s Macworld Keynote address. Given Steve Jobs’ initial desire to push 10 million units by the end of 2008, it’s safe to say that the company could be well on their way to achieving that goal. If true, this announcement would be the first official iPhone sales milestone following the initial “1 million sold celebration” that occurred just 74 days after the product’s launch. We’ll have to wait until Macworld to find out for sure, but we wouldn’t be the least bit surprised if this turns out to be true.

HTC releases TyTN II, S710 updates

Posted by VlAD @ 10:44 pm

‘This the season for spectrum auctions and OS updates. Following in the footsteps of Verizon and LG, HTC has just released a small patch designed to fix some Bluetooth issues. It’s not a massive update by any stretch of the imagination, but for anyone that has been experiencing dropped calls while using their Bluetooth connection, your day of justice has arrived. The patch comes straight from HTC, so we’re not sure if this is compatible with an AT&T-branded Tilt, or any other Kaiser / TyTN II variants. That said, it’s nothing more than a .CAB file available for an OTA download, so it can never hurt to try.

LG KS20 Windows Mobile Smartphone to hit the USA as LG MS25

Posted by VlAD @ 06:15 pm

LG’s KS20 Windows Mobile 6 Professional smartphone (see our previous review here) caught some attraction since it is a stylish Prada phone look-alike Windows Mobile Pocket PC phone, featuring GSM/HSDPA, Bluetooth and Wifi. And wow, as the FCC recently unveiled, it looks like LG is cooking a U.S. version with adopted support for North American frequencies as well. According to the FCC, GSM/EDGE at 850/1900 MHz is confirmed as well as Bluetooth and the user manual also mentions WiFi. However, neither tested/certified nor confirmed is UMTS or HSDPA, even if this is one of the highlights of the European version.

Posted by VlAD @ 03:25 pm

The new Land Rover LRX Concept will integrate the iPhone located dead center of the console. Owners can dock the iPhone and even use it as a key to start the vehicle. Located on either side of the power-adjusted speakers are iPod docking stations.

The Land Rover LRX Concept will debut at the Detroit Auto Show next month, and you can bet your ass I’m going to be all over it (yes, I will be attending the event).

iPhone conquers France

Posted by VlAD @ 01:35 pm

The iPhone has been one of the most sought-after mobile phones in recent history. Its product life follows a unique path, that’s never been seen in another mobile phone to date. Today the iPhone family will get extended as the French hop on board. Despite the hefty price and unwieldy contract stipulations, almost everyone seems to want one and some Germans are even willing to pay EUR 999 for an unlocked unit. All that inspired us of putting down some of our editorial comments into a short article.

There’s no wonder the iPhone black market is thriving and is currently bristling with activity. After all, it’s Apple themselves that have created the necessary conditions for the black market to emerge in the first place - a high-end product that’s sold exclusively. “Exclusivity” means that not everyone can have it. The black market however goes hand in hand with that sort of stuff.

Asus M930 Communicator Heading towards a Release

Posted by VlAD @ 11:07 pm

Asus is about to bring out a new smartphone that should make direct challenge to Nokia’s Communicator line of handsets. Asus M930 Communicator is highly similar to the device brought out by the Finnish producer but might come with more power and higher potential for success.

Asus M930 Communicator runs on a Marvel PXA27x 520 MHz chip, one of the highest ones found among mobile phones. There will also be packed 256MB of Flash ROM and 180MB of RAM, which sounds like just about all the needed resources to run any applications and use the handset both for work and personal needs just as good.
