Motorola today announced the MC9500 – a premium industrial-class handheld device that takes mobile computing innovation to the next level to further increase productivity, streamline operations and reduce total cost of ownership.

The new MC9500 leverages the features and functionality of the industry’s best-selling Motorola MC9000 mobile computer and introduces new capabilities such as modular 3.5G WAN for a groundbreaking enterprise mobility solution that can change the way organizations do business. Designed to improve operational efficiencies with its extreme ruggedness and superior ergonomics, the MC9500 also redefines backroom management with a unique accessory system and a new approach to battery management.

Researched and field tested to meet the needs of the most demanding customer environments, the MC9500 mobile computer delivers reliable performance for mobile workforces in the transportation and logistics, parcel/post, direct store delivery, field service and public safety industries. “Motorola has proven leadership in mobile computing – initially changing the market landscape with the introduction of the MC9000,” said Gerald McNerney, vice president of mobile computing product management, Motorola Enterprise Mobility Solutions. “The new MC9500 is a testament to our commitment to innovation and demonstrates our continued ability to redefine the industry standard with the most versatile solutions on the market.”

Motorola Redefines Backroom Management

Adding to the revolutionary design and functionality of the MC9500 mobile computer, Motorola is also introducing the first universal accessory system. Designed to enable an unprecedented level of flexibility and modularity, the new system helps maximize backroom efficiency by optimizing the space needed for mobile computers, charging cradles, power packs and cables. In addition, the new backroom management system provides increased return-on-investment by integrating an agnostic cradling approach that can support a variety of Motorola mobile computers enabling customers to migrate to future generations without replacing or upgrading the backroom management infrastructure. To further increase productivity and reduce downtime, Motorola MAX Battery provides information indicators on the battery that allow backroom managers and users to see the charge level as well as battery health to ensure maximum uptime.

“As enterprise needs evolve, organizations are looking for more than the latest technology to meet the business-critical needs of mobile workers,“ said David Krebs, analyst, VDC. “Motorola has embraced these requirements with its new MC9500 which integrates an innovative combination of features, functionality and design to empower the mobile workforce and impact business operations. And with a unique approach to accessories and battery management, Motorola is demonstrating its ability to identify enterprise challenges and deliver future-proof solutions that meet customer demands.”

Designed for the most demanding field mobility applications, the MC9500 mobile computer offers an unsurpassed feature set in a sleek and reliable form factor for enterprises demanding the most versatile and rugged solutions. It is the first mobile computer to provide modular 3.5G WAN with support for GSM HSDPA or CDMA-EVDO Rev A wireless broadband connectivity in one device – allowing customers to select the 3.5G network that best meets their needs. Known as Motorola MAX FlexWAN, a feature of Motorola’s mobility architecture eXtensions (MAX), this cellular network flexibility allows businesses to deploy a single pool of mobile computers that will provide the best coverage for users in different geographies. In addition to advanced ergonomic design the new MC9500 mobile computer also features a portfolio of modular, swappable keypads that meet the needs of virtually any application.

The MC9500 incorporates interactive sensor technology (IST) – a new Motorola feature that supports a host of motion-sensing applications that enable organizations to derive increased business value. For example, enterprises can increase worker accountability by detecting and logging device drops. In addition, the IST improves power management by enabling the MC9500 mobile computer to automatically revert to sleep mode when not in use or if the display is face down. And for added flexibility, in applications such as signature capture, the integrated accelerometer also allows the display to dynamically switch between portrait and landscape modes based on the orientation of the device.

The MC9500 is the first mobile computer based on Motorola’s Mobility Platform Architecture 2.0 – redefining the design and innovation of rugged mobile computing solutions. Equipped with the Marvell XScale PXA320@806 MHz processor and Microsoft® Windows®

Mobile 6.1 operating system, the MC9500 places the latest technology in the hands of mobile workforces around the globe. With enterprise-class GPS functionality, it provides coverage in even the most challenging environments for reliable location-based services. The MC9500 also offers a variety of data capture options to provide increased flexibility for enterprise customers, including a 1D laser scanner or 2D imager. A 3-megapixel auto-focus high-resolution digital color camera can be used with either the scanner or imager for the capture of high-resolution photographs, video footage and documents – allowing for easy signature capture, proof of condition or delivery.

To help customers maintain peak performance, Motorola Enterprise Mobility Services recommends Service from the Start with Comprehensive Coverage for end-to-end and inside-outside protection for the MC9500 mobile computer. From the first day of the hardware purchase, customers can rest assured that no matter what is damaged — from broken displays, keypads, and internal and external components to select accessories — the repair is covered. With Motorola’s Service from the Start with Comprehensive Coverage, unexpected repair expenses can be significantly reduced, providing service peace of mind.

Motorola relies on a worldwide network of best-in-class partners to deliver enterprise mobility solutions that provide real-time information for better decisions and better results. With a level of industry experience and business acumen that can only be garnered through in-the-field experience, our partners can add significant value to enterprise mobility solutions. The MC9500 will be available worldwide through Motorola channel partners and Motorola sales.

HTC Corporation, a global designer of mobile phones, today unveiled two new flagship devices, the HTC Touch Diamond2 and HTC Touch Pro2. Integrating innovative simplicity with unique style and an intuitive interface, the device balances function, form and cutting-edge technology to personalize the communication and mobile Internet experience.

“The HTC Touch Pro2 and HTC Touch Diamond2 introduce a mobile communication experience that simplifies how we communicate with people in our lives whether through voice, text or email,” said Peter Chou, president and CEO, HTC Corp. “HTC is delivering the latest, cutting-edge sophistication in a broad portfolio of mobile phones that improve how people live, work and communicate.”

HTC TouchFLO 3D Integrated With Windows Mobile
The HTC Touch Diamond2 and HTC Touch Pro2 utilize HTC’s latest TouchFLO 3D interface. TouchFLO 3D has been more deeply integrated into a customized version of Windows Mobile 6.1 to deliver more consistency throughout Windows Mobile applications and menus. Focused on making navigation easier and more intuitive, TouchFLO 3D brings important information to the top-level user interface, including quick access to people, messaging, email, photos, music and weather. As part of this improved Windows Mobile integration the touch focus areas have been enlarged to be more finger-touch friendly.

Bringing People Together
With the HTC Touch Diamond2 and HTC Touch Pro2, HTC is introducing a new people-centric communication approach, providing a single contact view that displays the individual conversation history of contacts regardless of whether voice, text or email were used. This can be viewed from the contact card or the in-call screen during a phone conversation, ensuring the latest communication contact-by-contact is always at hand.

Simplifying How People Access Their Information
Continuing its commitment to making the mobile Internet easier and more enjoyable, the HTC Touch Diamond2 and HTC Touch Pro2 introduce HTC’s Push Internet technology. HTC Push Internet alleviates slow downloading and rendering of Web pages on a mobile phone. Users can preselect their favorite Websites to get immediate access to them when needed.

HTC Touch Diamond2
The HTC Touch Diamond2 is the next step in the evolution of the successful HTC Touch Diamond. Crafted to fit perfectly into the hand, the Touch Diamond2 evolves the compact design and iconic style of the original HTC Touch Diamond. It incorporates a larger 3.2-inch high-resolution wide-screen VGA display for a greater viewing area in a design just 13.7mm thick. The phone also includes a new touch sensitive zoom bar for even faster zooming of Web pages, emails, text messages, photos or documents.

Leveraging HTC’s TouchFLO 3D experience combined with a people-centric communication approach and HTC’s new Push Internet technology, the Touch Diamond2 offers an advanced touch experience that is optimized for one-hand use.

With 20% larger battery capacity, a five mega-pixel auto focus camera, expandable memory, gravity sensor and an ambient light sensor, the Touch Diamond2 brings the most sophisticated capabilities to a broad consumer audience looking for the professional benefits of a smartphone without sacrificing size, looks or functionality.

HTC Touch Pro2
Designed for business professionals, the HTC Touch Pro2 is architected with distinct style and strength while delivering the most powerful productivity experience available on a mobile phone. Leveraging HTC’s TouchFLO 3D, people-centric communication and Push Internet technology, the Touch Pro2 features a high-resolution 3.6-inch widescreen VGA display for an expanded viewing area and large finger-friendly QWERTY keyboard. With improved battery life, expandable memory, a touch-sensitive zoom bar as well as gravity, proximity and ambient light sensors, the Touch Pro2 is optimized for touch as well as heavy email use.

Introducing HTC Straight Talk™ For HTC Touch Pro2
The new HTC Touch Pro2 leverages voice in a new way to create one of the most sophisticated communication experiences found on a mobile phone. HTC’s new Straight Talk technology delivers an integrated email, voice and speakerphone experience. Users can transition seamlessly from email to single or multi-party conference calls* and turn any location into a conference room.

In addition to the new simplified calling experience, Straight Talk includes an innovative mechanical and acoustic design that features a sophisticated speakerphone experience similar to those found in corporate boardrooms. Straight Talk delivers a high-fidelity voice and sound experience enhanced by asymmetric speakers and advanced noise suppression with full duplex acoustics. When the Touch Pro2 is flipped over it automatically turns into a conference room speakerphone system.

Pricing & Availability:
The new HTC Touch Diamond2 and HTC Touch Pro2 will be available from mid May and end June 2009 at all authorized resellers at a suggested retail price of SGD $1,088 and $1,328. (inclusive of 7% GST) respectively**.
* Conference call feature and number of participants are network dependant.

Sony Ericsson has just launched the latest panels for its multimedia convergence phone, the Xperia™ X1, teaming up with the popular social networking site Facebook and Microsoft Windows Live. These web-centric panels come in addition to the existing connectivity panel from Dashwire, a site which allows you to sync your phone content to the web and share it to a range of popular social networking sites.

The new Facebook application built for Sony Ericsson uses the unique interface of the Xperia™ X1 to deliver an intuitive version of the site, putting images of your friends onto your phone’s desktop (standby screen) and showing their latest status updates as you touch their images. Touch through to access more Facebook features.

New functions available through the Xperia™ X1 Facebook panel include:

An entirely new visual representation of friends’ statuses

Simple and fast upload of photos to Facebook

Easy access to Facebook friends list and phone numbers, with click to call capabilities.

As you touch to view different information, icons and links change to give you one touch access to the information you are likely to use – for example, touch the photo icon from your profile page to see your photos, from a friend’s profile page touch the photo icon to see their photos.

The Xperia™ X1 marks the beginning of a partnership between Sony Ericsson and Microsoft. In addition to building the X1 on the flexible, powerful Windows Mobile 6.1 operating system, which helps extend the phone’s connection to Microsoft Web and PC experiences, a new Windows Live panel will help Xperia™ X1 users instantly bring their existing Windows Live contacts and features to their phone.

The Windows Live panel uses existing Windows Live ID to sync contacts held in the X1’s phonebook, and the panel will provide easy access to an intuitive Microsoft messenger interface, including Hotmail and Live Messenger, the world’s most widely used free instant messaging service. The panel will also give users access to the Windows Live Search function, which is tailored to mobile phones and can be voice activated and controlled. Other Windows Live services will be incorporated into the panel throughout the year.

“We’re thrilled to partner with Sony Ericsson and deliver our Windows Mobile platform and Windows Live panel on the Xperia™ X1,” said Todd Peters, corporate vice president of marketing, Microsoft Mobile Communications Business. “460 million Windows Live users can step into the Xperia™ X1 and tap into the Microsoft experience they already use everyday.”

The Dashwire panel seamlessly synchronises the X1 and the content it captures with a user’s computer and the web. Dashwire’s free service helps users automatically sync the contacts, text messages, photos, videos, calls, and settings from their phones to a private cloud-based account, providing them with access to their information when in front of a computer or on-the-go using their Xperia™ X1, and making it easy for users to do things like backup their contacts, send text messages from the web, and share their photos and videos with friends and social sites like Facebook, Flickr, Twitter, FriendFeed, and Bebo.

“Panels open up an exciting set of opportunities for users to interact with their personalized experiences, and for developers to help bring them to life,” said Ford Davidson, founder and CEO of Dashwire. “By building out a custom panel, we’ve enabled our users to instantly access all of their photos stored in the cloud with just a flick of their finger.”

The Facebook, Windows Live and Dashwire panels are available for free download via the device’s on-board downloader and from the Sony Ericsson website, where they join the initial panels from Sony Ericsson and Spb software. Panels can also be downloaded from the Sony Ericsson Fun & Downloads web site. Browse to www.sonyericsson.com/fun and select ‘panels’.

In addition to panels developed through individual panel partners, Sony Ericsson is working with the independent developer community to encourage them to create exciting and innovative panels based on the recently released Beta software developers kit (SDK) for Windows Mobile 6.1 compatible with Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 development environment and Microsoft Windows Vista operating system. To encourage developers to work with the SDK, Sony Ericsson has dedicated a category of its 2008 Content Awards to the design of Xperia™ panels.

“Sony Ericsson is committed to building a rich and dynamic panel eco-system for the Xperia™ X1 that will really bring the power of the handset to life”, said Rikko Sakaguchi, CVP and Head of Creation and Development at Sony Ericsson. “Making the Windows Mobile SDK available for free to developers and mobile content creators will accelerate the development of new panels and applications for the Xperia™ X1, offering consumer choice and personalisation.”

Entries to the Panel Competition are invited from any developers, both companies and individuals, who develop a panel for the Xperia™ X1. The Panel Competition winner will be announced at Mobile World Congress and featured in Sony Ericsson events at the show. In addition, they will be invited to an exclusive two day workshop and presentation at the Sony Ericsson head quarters in Lund, Sweden where they will present their projects to top Sony Ericsson executives and spend one on one time with several senior Sony Ericsson directors to discuss new joint business ventures.

To find out how to enter the panel competition which has been extended until January 30th, 2009, please visit www.sonyericsson.com/contentawards

Verizon Wireless and HTC Corporation today announced that the HTC Touch Pro™, a compact and stylish phone with an intuitive touch screen and slide-out QWERTY keyboard, is available on the nation’s most reliable wireless network. Customers can purchase the HTC Touch Pro beginning today through business sales channels and online at www.verizonwireless.com. The phone will be available for order in Verizon Wireless Communications Stores beginning Dec. 1.

The HTC Touch Pro combines HTC’s hallmark design and easy-to-use interface with the power of Windows Mobile® 6.1 Professional. For maximum flexibility, customers can choose to use either the classic Windows Mobile interface or HTC’s acclaimed TouchFLO™ 3D graphical interface, which makes popular applications easily available at the swipe of a finger. Because the phone runs on Verizon Wireless’ network, customers can browse the Web or access their e-mail, contacts and calendars with Microsoft Outlook® quickly and reliably. The phone also has the ability to open and edit Microsoft Word and Excel® documents and share Microsoft PowerPoint® files with large groups using a separately sold video-out cable connected to a television or projector.

The HTC Touch Pro is a productivity workhorse that allows people to balance their professional and personal lives. A 3.2 megapixel camera with LED flash makes it easy to capture and share high-quality images and video. With the preloaded business card reader application, the camera doubles as a scanner, allowing business card information to be quickly and easily stored on the HTC Touch Pro and synchronized with a contact database. Customers can turn their HTC Touch Pro into a GPS navigator by using Verizon Wireless’ VZ Navigator(SM) service. With VZ Navigator, customers can access audible turn-by-turn directions to more than 14 million local businesses and attractions and even share the locations with others. Verizon Wireless customers can further customize their HTC Touch Pro by selecting from thousands of available Windows Mobile applications, including productivity applications, utilities and games.

Accessing information and entertainment on-the-go is made simple with the Opera Web browser, which enables Web pages to be viewed in the format they were originally designed to be viewed on the HTC Touch Pro’s vivid-2.8 inch VGA display.
