Under the agreement Ericsson will be the sole supplier of a GSM/EDGE network including core network, radio access and microwave transmission. It will provide subscribers with access to a reliable and robust network as well as services such as GPRS/EDGE mobile internet access, per-second billing and international roaming. The deal also includes Ericsson’s Mobile Softswitch Solution, which is capable of carrying large volumes of voice traffic in a state-of-the-art network architecture.
Ericsson has been selected by Singapore Telecommunications Limited (SingTel) to expand and enhance its GSM/WCDMA/HSPA networks, providing the operator’s mobile customers with greater coverage and higher data speeds. The contract is worth US$160million.
Ericsson will provide a complete IP-based radio access and common core network. The system is designed to carry large volumes of traffic, providing SingTel’s 2.6 million mobile customers with improved services and better coverage island-wide, both indoors and outdoors.
With Ericsson’s network improvements, SingTel’s existing High Speed Packet Access (HSPA) network will be upgraded to offer download speeds of up to 14.4Mbps (from the current 3.6Mbps) and upload speeds of 5.76Mbps (currently 384kbps).

Ericsson and Dell have teamed up to ensure international travelers can stay connected with Dell’s next-generation laptops that will support seamless roaming on tri-band HSPA mobile broadband networks. Dell will offer built-in HSPA mobile broadband modules from Ericsson beginning in Q2 2008
HSPA is the world’s most widely deployed mobile broadband technology, with more than 185 commercially deployed networks available around the world serving more than one billion subscribers.
“Consumers are increasingly utilizing notebooks to access the high-capacity services that they have typically experienced only through a wired or WiFi connection,” said Mats Norin, Vice President, Mobile Broadband Modules, Ericsson. “We are excited to work with Dell to give consumers and business users the freedom and flexibility to access internet in the way they want it, wherever they are.
Ericsson has been chosen by leading Indonesian operator Telekomunikasi Selular Indonesia (Telkomsel) for its Mobile Softswitch Solution (MSS), including the new MSC Server Blade Cluster. The solution will provide a common core network platform for both GSM and WCDMA technology and boost Telkomsel’s network capacity, performance and coverage.
Ericsson’s MSS will allow Telkomsel to reduce its core network operating expenses, and is the first step towards an efficient, converged, all-IP core network. It supports improved call control and network intelligence, enabling a reduction in the number and size of main core network sites. It also offers bandwidth savings, improved voice-over-IP network services, and enhanced voice quality for subscribers.
Winners of Sweden’s 2.6GHz spectrum auction can now look to rapid deployment of advanced mobile networks, with Ericsson poised to deliver end-to-end HSPA and LTE technology.
