Ericsson wins managed services deal with du in United Arab Emirates

EricssonEricsson and United Arab Emirates-based operator du, have signed a three-year managed services agreement which will enable du to continue develop operational efficiency of nationwide GSM/WCDMA network operations.

The partnership provides du with a long-term sustainable operating model, reducing its operational expenses and enabling the operator to focus further on providing attractive new services to its subscribers. The network operations agreement also guarantees the performance and quality of du’s multi-vendor network.

EricssonIndosat, Indonesia’s second-largest telecom operator, is bringing advanced location based services to its 29 million subscribers using Ericsson’s technology. Subscribers will get location tailored content, enabling real-time traffic information, seeing where a family member is or receiving public safety information.

Indonesia is the fourth most populous country in the world, with over 230 million people. The current total mobile subscriptions are at about 120 million, just above 50 percent penetration, and Indonesia is acquiring more than 17 million new subscribers every year.

Jan Frykhammar appointed CFO of Ericsson as of November 1, 2009

EricssonEricsson’s in-coming CEO Hans Vestberg has appointed Jan Frykhammar CFO of November 1, 2009. Frykhammar will also become Executive Vice President as of January 1, 2010. Jan Frykhammar is currently head of business unit Global Services and Senior Vice President.

Jan Frykhammar joined Ericsson in 1991 after he had earned a Bachelor of Business Administration and a degree in Economics at the University of Uppsala, Sweden. He has held various managerial positions in Ericsson as well as with Ericsson Mobile Phones. Frykhammar was appointed Senior Vice President and head of business unit Global Services as of January 1, 2008. He will remain as head of business unit Global Services until a successor has been appointed.

50 million go mobile on Chinese social network

EricssonEricsson and Kaixin001, the largest and fastest-growing social networking site in China, are joining forces with a three-year partnership to develop innovative mobile applications that will help millions of users access the site wherever and whenever they want.

Launched in March 2008, Kaixin001 already has more than 50 million subscribers in China and among Chinese speakers across the world, and is attracting about 200,000 new registrations a day.
