EricssonLeading Dutch operator T-Mobile Netherlands has signed a four-year strategic-partnership contract with Ericsson. The agreement, which follows T-Mobile’s acquisition of Orange in the Netherlands, will result in the continuation and expansion of existing contracts, cementing Ericsson’s position in the Dutch market.

Under the contract, Ericsson will continue to manage end-to-end network operations for the former Orange network. Ericsson will also take on responsibility for streamlining T-Mobile Netherlands’ overall network infrastructure by dismantling the former Orange mobile networks.

EricssonEricsson has signed a managed services contract with leading Brazilian operator Telefónica to maintain its new fiber network. The strategic partnership will allow Telefónica to reduce operational expenditure and focus on its core business.

Under the three-year agreement, Ericsson will supervise and provide preventive and corrective maintenance services for Telefónica’s fiber network in São Paulo state, beginning in April 2008.

EricssonEricsson announced an extension of its global capabilities in the IT domain. Ericsson already has a strong presence in Managed Services and Systems Integration, and now further capabilities are established - enabling increased focus on managed services and hosting in the IT domain. This comes with the first anniversary of the Global Services Delivery Center in Bucharest, Romania, which acts as a global competence center for managing IT environments on behalf of operators.

Through further focus on the IT area, Ericsson addresses the increasingly interdependent and complex crossroads of telecom and IT, leveraging its telecom expertise. The Systems Integration and Managed Services IT offering means that Ericsson can design, integrate and manage the IT parts of the telecom operator environments - covering the service layer, business support systems and operations support systems, including services such as billing, messaging and content delivery.

Ericsson signs GSM/EDGE contract with Digicel in Honduras

EricssonEricsson has been awarded a GSM/EDGE contract by Digicel Group in Honduras, making Ericsson the preferred supplier for Digicel’s operations in the Caribbean, El Salvador and now in Honduras.

Under the agreement Ericsson will be the sole supplier of a GSM/EDGE network including core network, radio access and microwave transmission. It will provide subscribers with access to a reliable and robust network as well as services such as GPRS/EDGE mobile internet access, per-second billing and international roaming. The deal also includes Ericsson’s Mobile Softswitch Solution, which is capable of carrying large volumes of voice traffic in a state-of-the-art network architecture.

EricssonEricsson has been selected by Singapore Telecommunications Limited (SingTel) to expand and enhance its GSM/WCDMA/HSPA networks, providing the operator’s mobile customers with greater coverage and higher data speeds. The contract is worth US$160million.

Ericsson will provide a complete IP-based radio access and common core network. The system is designed to carry large volumes of traffic, providing SingTel’s 2.6 million mobile customers with improved services and better coverage island-wide, both indoors and outdoors.

With Ericsson’s network improvements, SingTel’s existing High Speed Packet Access (HSPA) network will be upgraded to offer download speeds of up to 14.4Mbps (from the current 3.6Mbps) and upload speeds of 5.76Mbps (currently 384kbps).

EricssonToday at Ericsson’s Capital Markets Day in Stockholm, President and Chief Executive Officer, Carl-Henric Svanberg spoke about Ericsson’s position and the company’s vision going forward which will increasingly focus on broadband, multimedia services and network transformation.

Svanberg said: “We are advancing our vision now that basically anyone who wants a mobile phone will soon be able to have one. We envision an all communicating world where the majority of people everywhere will have access to information and the ability to share it instantly, whenever and wherever they want. We aim to do the same for broadband what we have already done for telephony - make it mobile, available and affordable for the majority of the world’s population.”

Ericsson and Dell connect on HSPA in next-generation laptops

EricssonEricsson and Dell have teamed up to ensure international travelers can stay connected with Dell’s next-generation laptops that will support seamless roaming on tri-band HSPA mobile broadband networks. Dell will offer built-in HSPA mobile broadband modules from Ericsson beginning in Q2 2008

HSPA is the world’s most widely deployed mobile broadband technology, with more than 185 commercially deployed networks available around the world serving more than one billion subscribers.

“Consumers are increasingly utilizing notebooks to access the high-capacity services that they have typically experienced only through a wired or WiFi connection,” said Mats Norin, Vice President, Mobile Broadband Modules, Ericsson. “We are excited to work with Dell to give consumers and business users the freedom and flexibility to access internet in the way they want it, wherever they are.

EricssonEricsson has been chosen by leading Indonesian operator Telekomunikasi Selular Indonesia (Telkomsel) for its Mobile Softswitch Solution (MSS), including the new MSC Server Blade Cluster. The solution will provide a common core network platform for both GSM and WCDMA technology and boost Telkomsel’s network capacity, performance and coverage.

Ericsson’s MSS will allow Telkomsel to reduce its core network operating expenses, and is the first step towards an efficient, converged, all-IP core network. It supports improved call control and network intelligence, enabling a reduction in the number and size of main core network sites. It also offers bandwidth savings, improved voice-over-IP network services, and enhanced voice quality for subscribers.

Ericsson ready for HSPA and LTE deployment in 2.6GHz spectrum

EricssonWinners of Sweden’s 2.6GHz spectrum auction can now look to rapid deployment of advanced mobile networks, with Ericsson poised to deliver end-to-end HSPA and LTE technology. The auction is the first held in the world to license according to the harmonized band arrangement decision by the European Conference of Postal and Telecommunications Administrations (CEPT).

Ulf Ewaldsson, Vice President and Head of Product Area Radio at Ericsson, says: “All the pieces of the puzzle are now in place, with harmonized spectrum and licensing all backed by Ericsson products and solutions that support HSPA and LTE on the 2.6GHz band.”
