EricssonVodafone Ireland, the country’s largest operator, has selected Ericsson to be the systems integrator of a real-time charging and IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) solution, including upgrading and expanding the operator’s network.

Under the agreement, Ericsson will be responsible for systems integration of existing solutions into the next-generation IMS environment. Ericsson will also upgrade and expand network capacity, enable real-time charging and underpin demanding multimedia functionality.

EricssonCable & Wireless Jamaica has chosen Ericsson as its long-term strategic business partner to upgrade and expand its network. Under the three-year agreement, Ericsson will be the Systems Integrator to transform Cable & Wireless’ core network to a next-generation IP network, deploying Ericsson Mobile Softswitch and Mobile Packet Backbone Network solutions, as well as Ericsson Multi Mediation platform.

As a strategic business partner, Ericsson will provide Cable & Wireless with systems integration services while facilitating the launch of a wide range of new and innovative next-generation broadband multimedia services, underpinning Cable & Wireless’ subscriber demands.

EricssonEricsson’s pioneering solar-powered site solution has been selected by Digicel Group, the largest mobile telecommunications operator in the Caribbean, to provide energy-lean network coverage in remote areas of Suriname. The solution offers the market’s lowest energy consumption, helping reduce operating costs and environmental impact, and its deployment marks a first in South America.

The solution is based on Ericsson’s main remote GSM base station RBS 2111, which is one in a series of energy-optimized, innovative base stations from Ericsson. It has a smaller environmental footprint than a standard base station, consuming up to 50 percent less energy.

HSPA (High Speed Packet Access) is the world’s most widely deployed mobile broadband technology, with 198 commercially deployed networks available in 86 countries worldwide[1]

As the use of wireless LAN (WLAN) technology becomes increasingly widespread, the demand for real mobile broadband access to the Internet and company networks anytime/anywhere has significantly increased. Market analysts[2] predict that laptops will remain the key mobile productivity tool for business and that HSPA technology will play a key role in this.

MotorolaNokia, Sony Ericsson, Motorola and NTT DOCOMO announced today their intent to unite Symbian OS™, S60, UIQ and MOAP(S) to create one open mobile software platform. Together with AT&T, LG Electronics, Samsung Electronics, STMicroelectronics, Texas Instruments and Vodafone they plan to establish the Symbian Foundation to extend the appeal of this unified software platform. Membership of this non-profit Foundation will be open to all organizations. This initiative is supported by current shareholders and management of Symbian Limited, who have been actively involved in its development. Plans for the Foundation have already received wide support from other industry leaders.

To enable the Foundation, Nokia today announced plans to acquire the remaining shares of Symbian Limited that Nokia does not already own and then contribute the Symbian and S60 software to the Foundation. Sony Ericsson and Motorola today announced their intention to contribute technology from UIQ and DOCOMO has also indicated its willingness to contribute its MOAP(S) assets. From these contributions, the Foundation will provide a unified platform with common UI framework. A full platform will be available for all Foundation members under a royalty-free license, from the Foundation’s first day of operations.

EricssonEricsson announced today it has signed a five-year IT outsourcing contract with IBM including application maintenance and development for Ericsson. The contract will improve the efficiency of Ericsson’s IT delivery to approximately 70,000 end-users and reduce operational expenditures.

The new contract, which is an extension of a contract signed in 2003, will update Ericsson’s IT services to cater better for the future needs of the company’s employees and ensure flexible support for the global business.

EricssonAt this year’s Volvo Ocean Race viewers can keep up to date with the latest developments via live mobile TV, or through IPTV in each race village, delivered by Ericsson. Viewers will enjoy personalized coverage via a user-controlled camera interface offering multiple in-port race views - a breakthrough made possible by Ericsson’s world leading technology.

The Volvo Ocean Race, the world’s most grueling offshore yacht race, is held from October 2008 to June 2009. The longest journey on this round-the-world marathon is a massive 12,300 nautical mile leg between Qingdao and Rio de Janerio. In-port races will be held at stopover points in Alicante, Singapore, Qingdao, Rio de Janeiro, Boston, Galway and Stockholm.

Telemedicine delivered using HSPA technology will enable the provision of affordable and accessible healthcare to millions of people in remote areas.

More than a million people, predominantly women and children, die each year in India because of a lack of healthcare. A further 700 million people have no access to specialist healthcare, as 80 percent of specialists live in cities. At the same time, the teledensity of India is increasing at a phenomenal rate. Telemedicine harnesses telecommunication technology to deliver healthcare and education to patients in remote regions. It enables easier access to healthcare for rural populations, helping to provide critical health information, save time and money, and reduce the need for travel.

Ericsson finalizes reverse split 1:5

EricssonTelefonaktiebolaget LM Ericsson’s Annual General Meeting on April 9, 2008 resolved on a reverse split 1:5 of the company’s shares. The reverse split has the effect that five shares of series A and five shares of series B, respectively, are consolidated into one share of series A and one share of series B, respectively.

The first day of trading in the company’s A and B shares after the reverse split is June 2, 2008.

EricssonLeading Dutch operator T-Mobile Netherlands has signed a four-year strategic-partnership contract with Ericsson. The agreement, which follows T-Mobile’s acquisition of Orange in the Netherlands, will result in the continuation and expansion of existing contracts, cementing Ericsson’s position in the Dutch market.

Under the contract, Ericsson will continue to manage end-to-end network operations for the former Orange network. Ericsson will also take on responsibility for streamlining T-Mobile Netherlands’ overall network infrastructure by dismantling the former Orange mobile networks.
