Did Symbian show Nokia’s iPhone killer?

Posted by Newsman @ 12:39 am

At the end of August Nokia has caused a lot of turbulence at her press conference in London where Nokia showed a touchscreen device. The speculations about the device, which was eventually not announced at the pressconference, almost overruled the real introduction of the Nokia N81 and the Nokia N95 8GB at this day. Until now there are still speculations about the touchscreen device from the Nokia video.

A highly informed source has confessed to Mobile PHone Helpdesk that Nokia is developing a touchscreen device. Nokia has been developing this device for over three years now. The video of the touchscreen device that Nokia showed at the pressconference is more than 2.5 years old according to our source and since then it has had a huge make-over concerning appearance, software and interface.

At the Symbian Smartphone Show today, which is held these days in London, a highly remarkable touchscreen device was shown to the public again. The device in the video did not carry a brand but it will probably concern a recent variant of the concept device of Nokia, which could be Nokia’s answer to the iPhone.

At Nokia’s pressconference at the 29th of AUgust this year, Nokia announced a toally new interface for future Nokia devices. The unknown device that Symbian showed at her presentation is equipped with a highly progressive interface which looks a lot like the recently announced Nokia interface.

Samsung i560 real photomodel in London

Posted by Newsman @ 12:25 am

The Samsung i560 is not officially announced by Samsung, but it is by Symbian, the system on which the GPS device will operate. The Symbian Smartphone Show takes place in London this week, where all news, facts, software and devices that operate on the Symbian system are shown to the public. The Samsung i560 was also present and was tested en photographed intensively.

Appearance The Samsung i560 does not really have a GPS appearance. The regular consumer would expect a large mobile phone which totally does not look stylish or nice. This story does not relate to the Samsung i560 at all because the device looks very modern, it is highly compact and it feels good. A real eyecatcher is the navigation key which has a highly stylish appearance and is implemented with a lot of allure in a good place.

The Samsung i560 is equipped with a nice keyboard that some among us may look a little familiar. The used keyboard can namely also be found in the Samsung Ultra II series, with the Samsung U600 and U700. The keyboard is quite large and, as we are used to with Samsung, designed with great eye for detail in exactly the same style as the rest of the slider.

Handy buttons and quick keys
The Samsung i560 is, as many other mobile phones currently are, equipped with several quick keys and buttons which make it easier to use the device. The Samsung i560 is also equipped with quick keys and that is why the user will find the port for the charger and the standardly delivered headset and besides this, the volume can also be adjusted at this side.

Sony Ericsson K850i Unboxing!

Posted by VlAD @ 11:21 pm

Got a little bit of competition there, Nokia? We’d say so! Sony Ericsson, long know for pooping on us America consumers with non-850MHz phones has finally turned a corner. The Sony Ericsson K850i doesn’t just come quad-band — we’re talking tri-band UMTS/HSDPA action also! Such a glorious day. A 5 megapixel CyberShot camera graces the handset, as do countless other features and upgrades over previous S.E. products. We’re loving this device, too. The camera lens opens automatically like a real camera on the back, the keypad is a pleasure to use and is highly responsive. We’re zipping away at HSDPA speeds right now, so we’d say all systems are a “go!” If there was ever a time to do a battle, it would be between the Nokia N95, and the Sony Ericsson K850i. Right, Chris? Check out our shots below!

First preview Samsung Armani Phone

Posted by VlAD @ 03:31 pm

Mobile Phone Helpdesk already spotted the Samsung Armani Phone halfway September. At this time, the device was still unannounced and a little while later Samsung felt the urge to launch this magnificent device in Milan. Today, Mobile Phone Helpdesk got the opportunity to view the Samsung Armani Phone from up-close and in real-life and a preview of the device has come from this.

Standard start screen
The standard screen that appears on the Samsung Armani Phone when it is waked from its standby mode consists out of an expanded agenda as we are used to with Samsung. The connection with Armani can directly be found at the background, as we can see at the subtle logo of the fashion icon.

Besides the agenda there also other functions on the standard display. Besides directly diving into the menu, a light touch offers adaption of the sound. Furthermore, network support, battery capacity and missed calls can directly be found at the start screen.

Cross interface
Just as with the Samsung F700, the Samsung Armani Phone is equipped with the highly special Flash Cross interface. It instantly feels superb to try the menu and choose some options with the VibeTonZ technolgy. After each touch, a subtle trembling signal is given by the Samsung Arnmani Phone, this to let you know that the device understands you.

The Cross interface itself is very clear and beautiful in used colours. It simply works as a matrix in which two coloured stripes come together in one section, which concerns the chosen option. All possibilities that the device offers can be reached in this menu, among these functions we find the 3 megapixel camera, the music player, the bluetooth 2.0 support, games, the messages inbox and the access to the internet.

Easy quick menu
With only one press on the button at the side of the Samsung Armani Phone, the perfectly easy and handy quick menu is reached. The most important items of the Samsung Armani Phone can be reached here, such as the camera, the music player, the agenda, the messages inbox and the menu.

The quick menu is also embedded with the cross interface. In the usage of colours and the appearance of the device it can clearly be seen that Samsung is not aiming for the female consumer with her Armani Phone, but for the fashion conscious male consumer.

Magnificent appearance and quick keys
The Samsung Armani Phone is a beautiful device to see. The magic that the device exudes works dazzling and at the moment that the editorial staff of Mobile Phone Helpdesk gets the device in hands, we are immediately taken in by the magical feeling. Delightfully thin and nicely finished with silver accents and subtle Armani symbols. The left side of this creditcard phone offers two small quick keys that make it possible adjust the sound. This can be very handy when in conversation because the place of the keys is so good that they can be reached immediately.

The right side of the Samsung Armani Phone offers a quick key to get to the quick menu of the device and, of course, the entrance of the memorycard. For the real musiclover this will be no unnecessary luxury, this because the Samsung Armani Phone offers an internal memory of 50 MB.

This year, we cannot only find a special Ladyphone underneath the christmas tree. Men can also be surprised round the cold christmas days with the Samsung Armani Phone. The Samsung Armani Phone will reach the market within a month for an unknown salesprice. The full specifications of the Samsung Armani Phone can be found at his specifications page.

HTC Polaris GPS Windows Mobile shows its face

Posted by VlAD @ 11:09 pm

Time is gone since we’ve heard about the HTC Polaris last time and unlike expected, HTC hasn’t unveiled it during its last week’s press events. However, someone in Portugal managed to got his hands on one and was even able to make some photos (as far as I know these are the first real photos of the Polaris).
The HTC Polaris is the UMTS follower of the HTC P3300 (HTC Artemis) and expected to feature Windows Mobile 6 Professional, GSM/GPRS/EDGE and UMTS/HSDPA, WiFi b/g and Bluetooth as well as a FM radio and for sure A-GPS (chipset yet unknown):

As you can see on the down photo above, the HTC Polaris (commercial name still uncertain) also features the new Touch-like TouchFLO display which is, according to the source, again QVGA only.

A release date wasn’t given yet but at least we know now that the first samples exists, so it shouldn’t take too long anymore (maybe still this year) to see it released

Hands-on with the HTC Shift Windows Vista UMPC

Posted by VlAD @ 06:12 pm

One of our personal highlights of this week’s HTC press events was the presentation of the HTC Shift, which was announced some months ago already but which we hadn’t seen in person so far. What makes the Shift so interesting? Well, it’s the combination of being smaller than a Notebook but more powerful than a Windows Mobile Professional smartphone while still connected through UMTS and HSDPA.

Unfortunately we hadn’t too much time with the Shift but what We’ve seen and was able to test impressed me as much that We are quite sure, that the HTC Shift is my next buy. As you can see on one photo bellow, the keyboard, even if it is a “full” Notebook keyboard isn’t sized to be used with 10 fingers but at the end you might use 2 or 4 fingers only but that’s okay and the compromise you have to pay for a device in this size:

The HTC Shift will be available in localized versions across Europe from November and will costs and estimated retail price of 1199 Euro. HTC hasn’t unveiled any carrier partnerships yet.

Hands-on with the HTC Touch Dual Windows Mobile Smartphone

Posted by VlAD @ 03:25 pm

Following yesterday’s official announcement of the HTC Touch Dual Windows Mobile 6 Professional smartphone, today I had some time to play with it and snapping some photos for your enjoyment.

Overall I can say that the Touch Dual is lovely and well done. It’s a little bit smaller than the HTC Touch but also a little bit longer and I’m quite impressed from the enhanced TouchFLO user interface as well as from the QWERTY keyboard which works pretty good. I’m sure the 20-keys version will become the bestseller (you see photographed bellow), not the traditional phone keypad version.

Furthermore HTC confirmed, that neither the original HTC Touch Dual nor any operator versions will sport WiFi as you might have seen rumored on the web. The explanation is simple: there was no space for WiFi or GPS so it’s not an option which carriers can deselect but it’s physically not built-in:

The HTC Touch Dual will becomes available across Europe during November.

Hands-on with the Arctic Silver HTC Touch Windows Mobile

Posted by VlAD @ 03:08 pm

If you are bored by black mobile devices like me or you simply cannot see it anymore because it seems black became in the mobile phone industry what beige was in the PC industry in the late 80s and early 90s, HTC has something new for you: the Arctic Silver HTC Touch. It’s not another silver device (since silver was before what black is today) but it’s shimmering somewhat warmer, not so cold.
I must say that the Arctic Silver HTC Touch is definitely looking like a winner. Unfortunately, there is no Arctic Silver HTC Touch Dual planned yet but who knows - maybe HTC will update its color portfolio for the Christmas season anyway:

The Arctic Silver HTC Touch should be available across Europe anytime from October.
