The Enterprise Mobility Solutions business unit of Motorola, today announced it has added the PMP 320 wireless broadband access network solution to its proven and cost-effective point-to-multipoint (PMP) wireless broadband portfolio. Motorola’s latest solution offers network operators reliable, robust and secure wireless connectivity based on 802.16e standards, accelerating deployment time and reducing infrastructure costs. Designed to provide reliable and secure residential access, cost-effective enterprise connectivity or support for e-government applications, the PMP 320 can be co-located with existing Motorola PMP wireless broadband networks to offer service providers greater leverage from their existing access point locations.

“Motorola continues to advance its leadership position in the point-to-multipoint market by delivering innovative wireless broadband connectivity technologies that help our customers grow their business,” said Tony Cecchin, senior director for global product operations, Motorola Enterprise Mobility Solutions. “By bringing to market a cost-effective and highly interoperable solution, Motorola is helping to protect the existing infrastructure investments of network operators while enabling them to extend service to new areas or offer new services to existing customers.”

Motorola’s PMP 320 fixed licensed outdoor access solution delivers fast, affordable connectivity in the 3.3 – 3.8 GHz licensed frequency bands, so customers can leverage their existing licenses for fixed wireless broadband connectivity. Optimized for fixed, outdoor applications, Motorola’s solution helps network operators and service providers keep infrastructure costs to a minimum. The PMP 320 features all-outdoor integrated radios and standards-based servers, so it does not require specialized gateways, routers or servers, resulting in installation that is quick and simple, yielding a faster time to market, lower costs and excellent return on investment.

The PMP 320 delivers high-performance solutions for operators holding licenses in three different frequency ranges: 3.3-3.4 GHz, 3.4-3.6 GHz and 3.6-3.8 GHz. Motorola’s solution supports standard WiMAX QoS profiles, is interoperable with WiMAX 802.16e CPEs, and uses standard AAA/ RADIUS servers for authentication. With 2×2 MIMO and matrix B functionality, 10 MHz channels, and 802.16e coding/error correction, the PMP 320 delivers high throughput with excellent coverage and link budgets.

“Motorola’s PMP 320 provides a reliable and secure connectivity solution that enables network operators and enterprise customers to leverage standards-based technology,” added Tim Mason, senior director for Wireless Network Solutions, Motorola Enterprise Mobility Solutions. “Robust, standards-based networks deliver a new level of business agility for both public and private network operators.”

Motorola relies on a worldwide network of best-in-class partners to deliver enterprise mobility solutions that provide real-time information for better decisions and better results. With a level of industry experience and business acumen that can only be garnered through in-the-field experience, our partners add significant value to enterprise mobility solutions. The PMP 320 wireless broadband access network solution will be available worldwide through Motorola channel partners and Motorola sales in the fourth quarter of 2009.

Motorola delivers seamless connectivity that puts real-time information in the hands of users, which gives customers the agility they need to grow their business or better serve and protect the public. Working seamlessly together with its world-class devices, Motorola’s unrivaled wireless network solutions include indoor wireless LAN, outdoor wireless mesh, point-to-multipoint, point-to-point networks and voice-over-WLAN solutions.

Motorola, announced today that it has established a take-back recycling program for its U.S. Enterprise Mobility Solutions (EMS) customers to help them responsibly dispose of used equipment.

The products covered in the program include all Motorola-branded enterprise mobility equipment, such as mobile and portable two-way radios; handheld mobile computers; barcode scanners; imagers; in-vehicle mobile workstations; accessories; network infrastructure equipment; and computers, laptops and monitors. Batteries are also included but must be removed from the equipment before they are shipped for recycling. There is generally no cost incurred by the customer; however, freight charges may be applied in some cases.

“Recycling conserves resources, reduces impact on the environment and makes good business sense,” said Tom Collins, senior vice president, Worldwide Supply Chain & Operations, EMS, Motorola. “We’ve established this program to make it easier for our customers to recycle, while supporting Motorola’s goals of reducing the environmental impact of our own products.”

To return smaller or more portable items, customers can arrange shipment to one of Motorola’s e-waste recycling partners online. For larger equipment returns, customers are contacted for pick-up by a Motorola e-waste partner. Motorola audits its recyclers to ensure they comply with laws governing the disposal of electronic equipment, following the company’s supplier code of conduct and industry standards.

In 2008, Motorola collected more than 2,560 tonnes of electronic and electrical equipment waste for recycling. This includes take-back programs, internal electronics recycling efforts and community electronics recycling events sponsored by Motorola.

Additional recycling programs at Motorola

Motorola participates in electronics equipment take-back programs in countries covered by the European Union’s Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) directive. In other countries, take-back bins are located at various collection points, including Motorola service centers, shops and offices. Authorized contractors will collect and transport items to approved recycling facilities.

In the U.S., consumers may print a postage-paid label at www.motorola.com/recycle to return Motorola-branded modems, routers and cordless phones, as well as mobile phones and mobile phone accessories from any manufacturer, at no charge. Consumers may contact their local service providers to return Motorola cable set-tops.

Motorola offers or participates in mobile phone take-back programs in 70 countries around the world. The Race to Recycle program enables K-12 schools in the U.S. to earn extra cash for recycling mobile phones. A portion of the proceeds generated from returned mobile phones is distributed to participating schools.

Motorola’s recycling programs are part of the company’s overarching commitment to environmental sustainability. To learn more visit www.motorola.com/environment.

The Enterprise Mobility Solution Sector of Motorola today announced the installation of a wireless network for data transmissions and internet access in the City of Alovera in the Spanish province of Guadalajara. The new network will provide internet to inhabitants and local authorities for the urban centre as well as the outlying housing estates.

Local authorities in Alovera awarded the deployment to Motorola partner Nostracom Telecomunicaciones which is based in Granada. The Alovera project consists of the deployment of a municipal Wi-Fi network with 42 access points. The discreet, state-of-the-art wireless mesh network offers improved technological features and blends into its environment preventing it from becoming an eyesore and minimizing the visual impact on the municipal landscape.

“The network will provide fixed or mobile broadband connectivity, VOIP, video surveillance or hot zone Wi-Fi, as well as service mobility,” said Antonio Tejada, director general of Nostracom Telecomunicaciones. “This project will improve Internet access and will provide all the inhabitants and companies of Alovera with enhanced communications, wherever they are located.”

Motorola will provide the wireless technology for this project, using its “Motorola Motomesh Duo” network architecture. “The reduced size and improved features of our technology provide high quality Internet access for the people of Alovera as well as enhanced municipal services,” said Massimo Gotti, director for Wireless Broadband, Enterprise Mobility Solutions, Motorola, EMEA.

The wireless mesh network will support internet traffic and facilitate access as well as redundancy or scalability, offering wider coverage than other similar networks. It will also offer remote management from anywhere in the world. To achieve this, a traffic shaper system will be used to optimize the use of the network.

The new Wi-Fi zones will be distributed in squares, parks and other areas of commercial and tourist interest. This project will put Alovera on the map in technology terms, especially where Wi-Fi is concerned for urban and residential coverage.

“We are very proud to be on a level with Barcelona in this field,” said David Atienza, Mayor of Alovera “We are working hard to meet the needs of the young people in this community, as they are the one’s who will use the technology the most even though everybody will of course benefit”.
