Motorola is rolling out a showcase of solutions at The Cable Show 2008 designed to meet an explosive market demand for powerful, personalized media experiences. Among the new technologies on display, Motorola will: unveil its advanced advertising portfolio, demonstrate the fastest wired and wireless broadband speeds, prove the potential of new service assurance models, and deliver high quality, innovative video and audio entertainment solutions for the consumer.
The goal at this year’s Cable Show is to highlight the technologies that personalize video experiences and deliver new revenue streams from advanced services. To achieve that goal, Motorola is focused on three tenets of service delivery: enabling accessible broadband everywhere, optimizing networks to support services for today and tomorrow, and conveying content to consumers that is relevant and meaningful to their lives.

Verizon Wireless, builder and operator of the nation’s most reliable wireless network, announced today that VZ Navigator(SM) (Version 4) is now available on select consumer phones. First announced during CTIA WIRELESS 2008, the newest version of VZ Navigator allows customers in 75 cities from coast to coast to access information about traffic incidents on major roadways, obtain traffic updates and find detours around traffic congestion and accidents. More cities are expected to be added in the coming year. In addition, the new version of VZ Navigator offers a 3D perspective view of maps, a movie and events finder, weather reports and forecasts, and gas prices at nearby gas stations.
Verizon Wireless’ VZ Navigator service is a location-based service (LBS) application that utilizes location-based technology and real-time and historical information feeds. The new version of VZ Navigator offers customers the following features:
Ericsson will conduct the world’s first demonstration of end-to-end HSPA Evolution technology with speeds of up to 42 Mbps at CTIA Wireless 2008, which is being held in Las Vegas from April 1 to 3.
Speeds of up to 42 Mbps represent the next phase in HSPA Evolution. These speeds are achieved by combining new higher order modulation technology (64QAM), together with 2×2 Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) antenna technology. The first step of the HSPA evolution will be introduced during 2008.
Motorola will demonstrate its expanded femtocell portfolio, including its CDMA solution, at Motorola’s booth #1806 at CTIA Wireless 2008 Apr. 1-3 in Las Vegas. An expansion to its current line of femtocell customer premises equipment (CPE), including the company’s first 3G UMTS femtocell CPE announced at Mobile World Congress last month, the CDMA-based femtocell enhances the company’s end-to-end femtocell portfolio.

Nokia has opened a satellite design studio in Rio de Janeiro reflecting the increasing impact Latin American style and culture is expected to have on the future design of mobile devices and services. Based at the Design School of UniverCidade, it will bring together Nokia designers, students and established local designers to explore new trends and ideas that will influence products for the Latin American and global markets.
The satellite studio is the second in a series Nokia is establishing in the world’s hottest new design capitals. The first was opened in Bangalore, India, last year. Set up in partnership with leading design schools in each country, the fixed term studios bring Nokia designers directly into contact with local cultures and influences that will help inspire new design ideas and provide local students with hands on experience of working with a world class global design team.
